The History of the Glastonbury Fire Department

The Glastonbury Fire Department was formally organized in 1943, when the Town incorporated three seperate departments then protecting the North (Naubuc Fire Department) South (South Glastonbury Volunteer Fire Department), and East (East Glastonbury Fire Volunteer Fire Department) areas of town.

The information on these History pages has been compiled by Deputy Chief Donald "Pete" Cowles (retired). Specific sections of this History were provided to Pete by the following: Chief Mario Accornero (Chief Emmeritus), Chief Bernard Dennler Sr. (Chief Emmeritus), and Engineer William Bailey (Former Captain, Company 4). In addition, Engineer Robert Harrington (retired) provided a great deal of assistance in the compilation of this History.
